Öblarn to Wörschach

In this sector, the Enns already presents itself as a medium-sized river. Calm waters, class 2 to 3, await you there. In the middle of the river you’ll encounter almost no obstacles, but you should always stay alert, because every river constantly changes.

Specific characteristics

This sector is characterised by easy to medium-difficult flowing water. The beautiful landscape offers a lot of variety and many culinary, historical, alpine and sportive attractions, such as castles, canyons, castle ruins, and mountain tours await you.

Access

The access to the fourth stage is to be found on the right river bank, underneath the bridge next to the football pitch in Stein An Der Enns. On the left side of the river you have parking possibilities.

Exit 1

If you want to go back by train, it is best to end the fourth stage on the right side, underneath the road bridge in Wörschach. From there you can reach the train station in approximately 150 m.

Exit 2

For those who have planned a transfer with a car or taxi, there is another exit approximately 100 m after the bridge on the right side, directly after the mouth of the Gulling stream at the prominent sandbank.

Etappen

Because of the confluence of the Sölkbach stream, the Enns becomes considerably wider and calmer and presents itself as a fast flowing, calm river, depending on the water level. Until you reach the bridge in Gstatt, there are only few possibilities to land because of the dense riverine vegetation. Therefore, it is best to stay in the middle of the river at higher water levels to avoid an unpleasant contact with branches and plants. Depending on the water level, you’ll encounter a few smaller rapids, which form waves, but this should be no problem for you. Starting from the bridge in Gstatt, the riverine vegetation becomes much less dense. On the left side you’ll be greeted by the majestic sight of the impressive Grimming mountain. You will certainly be thrilled by this view. After approximately 4 km of gorgeous river landscape you reach the mouth of the Salza stream close to Niederöblarn. Here, it is best to land on the left side and check out the situation so that you can decide how to best paddle on, because the Enns constantly carves a different way through the sandbank and therefore you’ll always encounter new obstacles and challenges which you should check out beforehand. In doing so, you’ll also encounter a wonderful spot for a break – we can already reveal that this is one of the most beautiful spots for a break of the whole tour. After the river mouth, the first part of the fourth stage ends on the right side of the river. The Sportsarea with its airfield and the train station are close-by.

The second sector is very idyllic and you pass the beautiful mountain setting of the Grimming. Now you can enjoy a pleasant current until you reach the railroad bridge, but, depending on the water level, you might encounter a few obstacles as well as wonderful eddies. Now you reach the bridge in Espang, then you pass the gravel quarry until you get to the bridge in Niederstuttern, which is the starting point for hikes and next to the bridge, there is a lake for swimming. Between Niederstuttern and Trautenfels you can again enjoy wonderful flowing water. In case you want to visit the castle in Trautenfels with its interesting museum, it is best to land underneath the bridge.

Starting from Trautenfels, the Enns offers wonderful, moderate currents and guarantees you moments of pure joy on the water. From the mouth of the Grimmingbach stream you paddle on towards Stainach until you reach the Sallaberg bridge, where great eddies and gravel banks will delight every paddler. Should you wish to visit Stainach, you’ll find the best spot to land here. After the mouth of the Grimmingbach stream you paddle through the beautiful Enns meadow until you reach Wörschach with its two possibilities for landing, from where you can also reach the train station in Wörschach. The first possible spot to land is located directly underneath the road bridge and the second possibility is 100 m downstream in a picturesque bay. Here you also have parking possibilities. The fourth stage of the Enns tour ends here.
